99th Asian strategic reconnaissance squadron

The 99th Asian strategic reconnaissance squadron was founded in 1966 and has served in the United States since then. The squadron mission is to carry out global strategic surgery using SR-71 aircraft. During his time in the US, the 99th had carried out a global strategic reconnaissance mission. At present, Thailand-based squadrons, where it has been active since 1976. The main purpose of the mission is to carry out missions using U-2 aircraft.


The 99th Bombardment Squadron is the Vietnamese era squadron served in the United States Air Force. The aircraft used by the Squadron was mostly B-52S. The 99th Asian crew has various specialties, such as sniper mission, spy and reconnaissance. The squadron mission is to collect and analyze information about targets in Vietnam. The purpose of this mission is to target enemy targets and destroy their target infrastructure.


The 99 has two variants: weight and media. The earliest was renamed on 1 Apr 1950, and the other on October 2, 1950. In 1967, the squadron changed to the 99th strategic reconnaissance squadron. On June 25, 1966, the squadron was inactive. It was reactivated on 1 Apr 1971 and was designated as the 99th Wing Reconnaissance at 1 Sep 1991.


While the Asia99th bombing wing of the United States Air Force was mainly devoted to air mission in Southeast Asia, it was rearranged as the 99th strategic reconnaissance squadron. The squadron was redesigned on April 1, 1970, then activated on November 1, 1972, and renamed the Asia-Pacific division as SRW Asia-Pacific. During the Vietnam War, the Asia-Pacific region is the focus of the SRW mission, and the role of the team in the mission is a liaison between American and Vietnam soldiers.


The 99th Asian strategic reconnaissance wings were renounced from the 49th Wing Bombardment in 1951 to the Asia-Pacific region on June 25, 1966. The 9th strategic reconnaissance wing was redesigned as the 99th Wing Reconnaissance at 1 Sep 1991. Unit Stay active in Wing Vietnam to be inactive on April 1, 1971. His name was changed again to the 99th Strategic Wing Reconnaissance in 1972.

The 99th air filling wing is located in Birmingham Air National Guard base in Alabama. This is a partner unit and supports the 117th air refueling wings. This flew the Stratotanker Boeing KC-135R aircraft. The 99th Wing observation was originally held as the 9th reconnaissance wing. This reorganization was completed in 1919. On July 2, 1919, it was renamed the 99th observation wing.
