While the city continues its meteoric growth, local and international architects are working to write the next chapter in Shenzhen's story. These designers are guided by a combination of culture, geopolitics, and innovation. In Shenzhen, the architecture is more often experimental and unorthodox than functional or traditional.

The Pinwheel project at Liuxiandong MTR station is an example of the work of this Shenzhen architect. It is located on the top of the MTR station, and incorporates an office building, residential, and civic facilities. The design also incorporates elements of Chinese nature. His company RMJM Shenzhen showcases his talents in recent projects such as Ring Ping City Complex and Vanke Longcheng Square.

The new headquarters of world-leading robotics Shenzhen architects company DJI is an example of successful Shenzhen architecture. The design by Foster + Partners, demonstrates openness, connectivity, and soundless beauty. Foster + Partners also designed the Shekou Sea World Culture and Arts Center, which highlights the city's soundless beauty and connectivity.

MAD Architects have recently won two international architecture competitions. The project, which spans a 51,000-square-meter plot, includes eighty thousand square meters of building space. The project also includes a Science and Technology Museum and public green spaces along the waterfront. The project demonstrates the ability of architects to create a unique balance between ancient and modern cultures.

The courtyard kindergarten, located next to a senior citizens' housing, reflects the client's ethos of intergenerational integration. The complex consists of a replica of an 18th century court, an adjacent courtyard built in the 1990s, and a modern four-story building. The Zhongshuge bookstore, located in the fairylake botanical garden, is a second project for the firm.
