The Seasons

 

Seasons are the divisions of the year that are based on changes in climate and ecology, as well as the number of daylight hours in a particular region. They are caused by the Earth's rotation around the Sun and axial tilt relative to the ecliptic plane. Each season has its own distinct weather patterns and ecological characteristics.

The autumn season generally begins in mid-October and ends around November in temperate climates. Tree leaves turn brown and fall to the ground, while birds migrate back to their wintering areas. The first snowfall is usually in late November or early December. As temperatures drop, many plants start to wither. This season is a time for hunting and harvesting.

Meteorological seasons are based on the temperature cycle of the Earth over the course of the year. In general, summers are the warmest quarters of the year, while winters are the coldest. These seasons were first defined by the Societas Meteorologica Palatina, an early organization dedicated to meteorology.

Animals that live in a seasonal environment have to adjust their behaviors to match the season. For example, a bird with young may not survive a winter without food. For many animals, knowing the Season is literally a matter of life and death. The third season of Friends aired from 1996 to 1997. The seasons also affect the food supply and the weather.

The seasons are defined by different methods in different parts of the world. Some cultures rely on a lunisolar calendar, while others follow a solar calendar. This type of calendar is widely used in Australia, Denmark, and the former Soviet Union. Some East Asian countries use the solstices to determine the mid-day.

In the northern polar region, the sun reaches its highest elevation around 21 June. It also stays above the horizon for a longer period of time. By mid-October, the sun no longer rises above the horizon, but it remains above the horizon during the night. In mid-November to mid-January, the days are still dark.

Despite the cold and damp weather of winter, the flowers still bloom during this season. Jasmine, Hibiscus, and Bougainvillea are among the flowers that bloom during this season. The winter season also marks important Hindu festivals. It is during this time when the festivals of Bhai Dooj and Diwali are celebrated. However, the cold and dry weather cause many illnesses among people. Moreover, crops can rot due to the lack of rain.

The seasons in Finland and Sweden are different. Both countries date their seasons based on the temperature, but their seasons begin on different dates.
