Auburn University Announces Resignation of Allen Greene As Director of Athletics

 

The athletics department at Auburn University will undergo a series of changes in the near future after the recent resignation of Director of Athletics Allen Greene. The announcement of a change comes as the Tigers are gearing up for another football season. This past year was a tough one for the team, with the Tigers going 5-6 and losing five games.

During his time at Auburn, Greene helped hire former Boise State coach Bryan Harsin as the new head football coach. Harsin was a former player at the school. It was also during his first season that the athletic department was investigated for the way that they handled players and staff.

After the investigation, Greene's contract was not renewed. He was forced to leave the university. However, he planned to leave in an amicable manner. Although his tenure was short, he was able to make a positive impact on the athletics department.

He served in leadership roles at the University of Mississippi and the University of Notre Dame. In addition, he is active in the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and the Minority Opportunities Athletics Association (MOAA). Additionally, Greene is currently on the Executive Committee of the NACDA.

As the athletics director at Auburn, Greene renegotiated the contracts of seven coaches. Additionally, he oversaw the construction of a $92 million Football Performance Center. His department has already started implementing recommendations of the Inclusion and Race Relations Task Force.

Before coming to Auburn, Greene was the Director of Athletics at the University at Buffalo. There, he was able to achieve success both on and off the field. He helped the university build a number of facility enhancements, as well as donor development efforts.

In addition, Greene recruited current football coach Bryan Harsin. Harsin was an assistant at Boise State, but was hired by Greene after his tenure there ended. While Harsin's hiring split public opinion, it was a positive move.

In addition to the changes in the athletics Allen Greene department, Greene has made several other moves as well. Recently, the Auburn equestrian program won its second national championship and the women's golf team advanced to the national semifinals. Furthermore, the university invested $175 million in capital infrastructure, including the Football Performance Center. Moreover, Greene has been instrumental in securing funding for the new center.

Since his arrival at Auburn, Greene has been the subject of much controversy. Many people questioned his decision to fire eight-year football coach Gus Malzahn. Some people believed that Greene was pressured into the firing. Others thought that Greene was merely out of touch with the current state of the football program.

But after an eight-year stint at the university, he has returned to his roots and will be the senior deputy athletics director at the University of Mississippi. Having earned a degree in finance from Indiana University's South Bend campus, Greene has a strong background in sports and a broad range of experience.

In addition to his previous role at Auburn, Greene will also serve as chief operating officer of the Rebels. His contract will expire early next year, but he is planning on pursuing other interests.
